Pretend Play
It’s fun sometimes just sitting back to watch what the kids do on their own. Our kids, as with all toddlers/preschoolers. like to pretend play. It’s funny watching what they use as props. The red oval-shaped storage lid for their reading bench often goes missing and is later found sprinkled with magnetic puzzle pieces and assembled into a pizza. Their bats and golf sticks are used to delineate walls of a fort while lego-made weapons are used for defense… Wesley by default is always 2nd in line of command but doesn’t mind much as long as he is involved in the play. My Step Aerobic board lifts have amazingly transformed into square-shaped lifesaver rings when worn around the waist. And Nicholas has also asked me for his and Wesley’s zippered vests from the closet so they can wear it like Alladin does in the show. Heck, if something’s lacking from their play space, there’s always the craft area to rely on for last-minute creations. Nicholas will cut/paste/tape anything together to substitute the items in need. Books lying on the floor become leaping lily pads for our frogs. And carpet picnics are commonplace … graced with a smorgasborg of tempting selections. I’ve never actually recorded them at play although I have snapped a few photos, but what will they think of next.

Think of all the money that we spent on toys - we really don’t need to.
