Presidential Visit
Tuesday afternoon around 4pm this week, I was in the middle of my staff meeting when I heard and saw 2 large military choppers encircling our office and daycare area overhead. With me sitting at the head of the conference table facing the windows, I could not help but keep my eyes peeled to what’s going on. The first thought that came to my mind was the possibility of a local prison break with helicopters doing aerial searches of the escapee. Yes, there’s a low-security detention center just a hop and a skip away from where we our kids go to school every day.
Anyways, the news finally broke this morning of President Bush’s pending arrival tomorrow AM to our corporate domain, and then everything made sense. The military helicopters were probably doing an aerial survey of the presidential route. We were told of the impacting traffic situation, stoppage of public transportation in our immediate vicinity, and the fact that if you are are within a certain radius of the all mighty meeting…. you’d better be equipped with a government issued photo id and badge. Temporary badged employees will not be allowed in within the confines of the “alert area”. I guess this is not something that happens everyday so perhaps I’ll say that it’s worth a bit of the excitement.
The funny thing however is that for our kids…. they were much more disappointed over the fact that their Easter Egg Hunt & Potluck will be postponed till next Friday due to the pending visit than the fact that the US President and Gov Schwarzenegger will be arriving together in a presidential motorcade for the whole bells and whistle shabang. I guess they know where their priorities lie.
