Weekend of Playing
I flew home to visit my parents for the weekend, and this time my sister came along on the trip as well. I would’ve loved to take one kid with me, but with the muggy weather and school, it just made more sense doing that in the summertime instead. Visiting my parents solo has become a newfound luxury for me because both kids seem to do just fine without me around. As a matter of fact, it’s when I’m not around that Alex really steps up to the plate and becomes the kids’ superdad. He wakes up early first of all to cook the kids their favorite breakfast: pancake or waffle. Then he’d take them on little errands or do little projects around the house. I came home to a much cleaner home on Sunday night, and I have to say that that is just about the best pre-Valentine’s gift I can imagine. Alex also took the kids to Katelyn’s birthday party at The Little Gym and from what the kids told me… it was “SO SO FUN!”. Happy 5th Birthday Katelyn!
So what did I do on my excursion down south? Well, since Julia was with me, she and I got a chance to spoil and be spoiled by our parents. They bought and cooked us so much food (which is great or not-so-great if you’re trying to keep a trim waistline) and made us a yummy meal of shabu-shabu for our Sunday brunch. Well, the hot pot was actually intended for Saturday night, but those plans were derailed when we decided to make an impromptu detour on our way back from L.A. … to Disneyland. Since I already had a year-round pass, and I talked my sister into buying one as well, we only had to get tickets for my parents for the day. We arrived at 5pm at the park gate, and stayed till 10:30pm. It was a blast and a very different experience without the kids (because you sort of become a kid yourself). I figured it to be an interesting change in scenary for my parents and a great way to get some exercise in too, and boy did they do a lot of walking. We also found out while at Disneyland that it was my mom’s official birthday (according to the Chinese lunar calendar) so what better way to celebrate a birthday than to be doted on by your daughters we said. It was a lot of fun being “home” again, and I think my parents enjoyed the visit tremendously as well. Til next time.
