Nice Camera
I played the role of amateur photographer this morning on behalf of a coworker friend who’s last day at the company is tomorrow. She will be joining her husband in Beijing shortly after his almost 2 years worth of travels back and forth. With 2 kids (the younger one being just 1 year old), it’s hard not being together as a family especially in the US where help is expensive and hard to find. Luckily they already have a house/car/etc. set up there so basically the only thing missing is her and the kids.
Anyways, she asked me to help her capture some photos of her in and around our building and handed over to me a Canon EOS 5D with some major telescoping lens and contraptions I can’t even begin to describe. Wickedly cool I thought, but… are you sure about this I asked? She gave me a quick demo on the spot, and I was ready to go. I took the first shot and snapped 2 pictures in a row with one click. I guess my “trigger” finger was not used to the quickness of this Rolls Royce of cameras. I don’t even remember the last time I had to look through the small viewfinder of a camera, the LCD screen was amply sized too, and she had a waffle-cone shaped attachment over the lens to block out the sun I presume. Sweeeeeet!
It’s been ages since I used a “real” camera. I used to be one of two historians for a sorority we chartered my last year in college a long time ago, Kappa Zeta Phi, but the 35mm camera I used was a Pentax handed down from my grandfather and it’s nothing like these modern day contraptions. I felt like Rex the photographer this morning, even if it was only a few clicks of the shutter I got to experience.
