“I Don’t Want to Hear About It!”

This is what I hear back from Alex usually when our conversations about work goes over the ~5 minute time limit each day. Amazingly, Alex never talks about his work (at least to me) and is willing to discuss anything under the sun, except work. So what’s my remedy? I talk my family’s ears off about my work, and sometimes my friends as well. Maybe I have to apologize to my friends too if they are just being too polite to say what Alex says to me all the time, but the funniest thing is that it was actually my “rule” at the beginning of my career to discuss very little of work with my s.o. unless absolutely necessary because there are so many things in life more important/interesting than work. How funny that this reversal happened so drastically for me towards this point in my life (after having 2 kids). I need a long vacation can you tell!?

I know. I feel the same way, but boy… convincing Alex of anything has never been an easy task. Well, according to “The Secret” as quoted from Loanne/Oprah, the law of attraction says to focus on and be grateful for what you have instead of dwelling on the stuff you don’t want in your life.  Great tips for living a more peaceful life and a happier one supposedly. Thanks for sharing your experience too.

I truly think it’s healthy to talk about work since that’s what you do most of the time during the day. And especially when you are stressed or upset at work, if you don’t talk about it to your husband, how will he know or understand for example why you are in a bad mood that evening …
Brad always talk about work to me (not that I always understand all the technical stuff he said, but at least I listen) and of course I talk about my “work” too. :) Sometimes I even ask him how was his work. The kids always interrupt and I will have to tell them to let Mommy and Daddy talk too. If couples always just talk about kids, they will have nothing to talk about when the kids grow up and leave home … just my 2 cents!
