Thanksgiving 2006
Dinner
This year, Alex and I tried our hand at making our own Thanksgiving meal (using the same recipe I jotted down from 2 Thanksgivings ago), and we ended up baking a 16lb turkey which of course was way too big for the four of us. We got the turkey fresh on the day of and made some other sides to have with our meal. Alex’s side of the family was having their Thanksgiving meal in Sacramento this year, but we ended up staying put at our house because we rarely get to spend any downtime together as a family so this was something we decided to do this year for ourselves. The kids loved spending time in the house just playing. We’re rarely at home it seems these days so it’s almost like a treat for them to be able to do this. Alex put up new curtains in the boy’s rooms because it was starting to get cold and drafty at nights and they were so excited about the change in their rooms. I guess we’ve never really decorated our kid’s rooms much (or house for that matter) so this is a big deal for them.
Teeth
The day after Thanksgiving, Alex went in to the dental office to have some serious oral surgery done on his teeth and I just spent the day at home with the kids. Got lots of little things done around the house so that was good. Anyways, this surgery put Alex out of commission for the next couple of days because with him being on anti-biotics we could not go outdoors (due to the wearing off effect of the sun). He spent the rest of the weekend recuperating at home cuz that procedure rendered him with not much ability to eat the following couple of days. We even got him some Ensure to make sure that he had enough nutrition in his system. Can you imagine… Alex still has another 2 of these procedures to go (spaced out in 6 month increments) before he will finally be done. I tell the kids all the time now to go BRUSH YOUR TEETH!
