Swim Class (Fall ‘07, Week 3)
We missed the 1st 2 weeks of swimming this fall session already for various reasons, so I was so excited to see both kids in class finally this week. Alex had to work but came along anyways since we carpooled to work today. Lucky for him, the facility had WiFi access so he was able to do his work next to their outdoor pool. He wasn’t able to watch the kids during class, but it was nice having an extra helping hand getting the kids changed in the men’s locker room.
Nicholas picked up right where he left off and today there was only one other kid in class with him. He did his usual arm strokes back and forth in the pool until the teacher taught him to transition to his side at the halfway point. He is swimming in lane H this session so he’s right next to the lobby area (makes it easier for me to watch without having to put on my glasses). Before long, his teacher Mr. Sean was using Nicholas to show his classmate how to swim on her side. They ended the class with skulling exercises to pick up items off the bottom of the pool a distance away…. can’t wait until they teach him how to tread water so he will be comfortable in any depth pool.
Wesley had 2 teachers in class today because they were transitioning the kids to their new instructor, Miss Sherry. The teachers worked with them on their glides, to back, then front (I forget the official name for this), which was cute to watch. Then later, one teacher worked 1-on-1 with a student while the other kids practiced their arm strokes with the other teacher, taking turns back and forth. It’s funny to watch because again, how precise can these kids get with their arms anyway. I’m so glad to see Wesley enjoying the class and their excitement over playtime in the pool.
