Olympic Biathlon
Saturday afternoon, I had the boys watch the Olympics on TV so they can get a feel for what the Olympics and winter sports are all about. They were so thrilled to watch NBC’s coverage of the various sports and specifically the Women’s Biathlon event comprised of cross-country skiing and sharp-shooting between laps. Nicholas had piano lessons so didn’t get to finish watching the competition, but Wesley watched almost the entire coverage till the end. Germany took the top 2 medals while Russia placed third and fourth. The same evening, after the kids showered, they placed their reading bench in the middle of the room and started “skiing” around in loops, dropping down onto their tummies after each turn to shoot their targets, providing precision rifle sounds and all. Wesley donned a wool cap he found in Nicholas’ closet along with his favorite pair of fingerless glove-mitts and they went around and around to emulate the action on TV. It was quite a hoot. Now after watching a bit of the olympics, the kids are dying to see some snow in person.
