Nicholas’ Spring Program
We received a lovely invitation self-written and decorated by Nicholas himself for a performance given by the M13 class on May 23d at 1:20pm in the school cafeteria. We arrived before 1pm to get a good seat, but all the good seats and benches were all taken by the time we’d arrived, so we sat in the first row directly behind the teachers instead. We had to duck around their heads for the taping of the performance, but at least we had a good vantage with all the kids looking our direction during the performance.
The theme of their show was “Under the Sea” so Miss Whitfield played Little Mermaid tunes for the transition music along with: Hermit Crab, Octopus’ Garden, Surfin’ USA, plus the patriotic favorites like God Bless America. The students did a skit from the Magic School Bus so everyone got to recite a line with matching hand motions too. Nicholas’ line was about the tide pools and he did a great job projecting his voice toward the audience and looked very much at ease during the performance which was nice to see. The kids did a wonderful job I thought and you can see how proud they were of the result. After the performance, everyone filed into their classroom to announce the winners for the young author contest. All the winners were Nicholas’ good friends so he was really happy for them, and he got to read his own story to us that evening as well which he was of course very proud of as well.
