Cars

We caught a matinee showing of Cars on Saturday and the kids really enjoyed watching all the talking cars in this movie. There were no scary parts at all in this movie and I only had to cover Wesley’s eyes during the previews when they were showing the movie trailer for Monster House coming out later this year. One of the movie trailer we saw was called Ratatouille about a little rat running amuck in the streets of paris in search of some gourmet cheese… cute, coming out Summer 2007.

I recognized Owen WIlson’s voice right off the bat as Lightning McQueen cause he’s got that unmistakeable drawl. I also liked Doc’s voice-over and was pleasantly surprised that it was done by Paul Newman. I guess the name lightning McQueen was a dedication of sorts to Steve McQueen (a racing fan himself similar to Paul Newman). Actually, both my parents are great fans of these old timers. And I thank heaven for all the wonderful movies/actors my parents introduced us to growing up. I wouldn’t even give a damn about any of these old black and whites or the actors/actresses of those era if it weren’t for the exposure they gave us as a result of their own interest in American movies.

One of my favorite part of the movie was at the end when they paid homage to John Goodman for all the voice-overs he has supplied Disney over the years in Toy Story as the Pink Pig, as Sulley in Monster’s Inc, as Pacha in Emporer’s New Groove, etc. I guess a Disney movie just isn’t a Disney movie without him portraying a character in there. Anyway, we all got to munch happily on a big ole bag of movie popcorn (mmm…. the best), with drinks to spare. Each kid had their mid-movie potty break and this time only Wesley had to sit in a booster chair. Maybe it won’t be long before they can join us for more adventurous movies like X-men III….. NOT.

You are right Rex. Their landscape animation (especially on the drives) was pretty realistic… it even made me wonder for a moment whether they used real footage for those scenes.

  2. I love Pixar movies, great animation but not without well-developed storyline. can’t wait to bring the kids one of the coming wkends. I also noticed their animation progress from movie to movie. From the previews, looks like they really nailed down the realistic landscape background this time with Cars.
