Blending Badge

Yesterday, Wesley proudly came home with a giant red blending badge worn around his neck.  This badge is awarded when a child is able to blend beginning consonants with the endings:  an, iz, eb, ic, ub, etc.  The cutest thing is that even though Wesley has gotten pretty good with his phonics and such, he still had a very difficult time curling his tongue to pronounce the letter ‘R’.  So he’ll say things like alweady? wight? I think it’s cute now, but I certainly hope he outgrows it by the time he reaches middle school.

It’s ok Loanne, I called our pediatrician already, and he recommended a center for me to call. Sandra also asked a teacher friend of hers for that information as well. Anyways, I’m going to give it a shot just trying to correct the problem myself and if that doesn’t work after a while, then I’ll go to the source. Thanks all!

Let me send an email to my friend to find out. But check the following out:

That’s exactly what my mom recommended to me as well. Wesley has trouble with his R’s while Nicholas has trouble with his S’s. Any idea where I go to find these resources?

Not to scare you or anything, but if you don’t see it improving you might have to see a speech therapist who will help them say it correctly. You don’t want to wait until middle school. I know a few kids who are doing that right now. Matthew’s best friend is seeing one right now and his other best friend saw one last year. The next time I saw him he was saying the letters correctly. They say it’s easier to correct the speech when they are younger.
