1st Day at New School
Yesterday, we dropped the kids off at their new school (the same one they will attend this fall), and the commute was FANTASTIC! The campus itself is not ideally situated due to it being in an industrial zone, but the joy and elation I feel from not having to spend so much time in the car on daily commutes translates to a huge breath of fresh air.
Nicholas and I waited outside the door as Alex walked Wesley into his new class. Moments later, I saw Wesley running out the door with both Alex and the Director yelling his name in pursuit. Luckily I was right there to stop him outside the door so he returned with not much resistance the second time. Alex said that the second dropoff attempt was really smooth and that he had already made a friend by that time. At pickup time, Wesley was a happy as a clam. The teacher said that he had a really good day so we were glad to hear that of course.
Nicholas’ dropoff in the morning was obviously better, but he was a little hesitant about going into class on his own because we ended up dropping him off a little late. The teacher, Ms. Miller, came over to the door to welcome him in. She seemed very nice so I think Nicholas should have a fine time in her room.
The part we’re most excited about is that this school enforces mandatory dropoffs from the car, meaning the parents do not have a choice in walking the kids into their class. This plus the shorter commute will definitely save on time. I arrived into work at 8:30am this morning and almost didn’t know what to do with myself.
