The Read-Aloud Handbook by Jim Trelease

I’ve been meaning to post this for some time now, but kept forgetting to (sorry Suzanne and others) so finally here it is….
A while back, my cousin Jane and husband Michael sent us an autographed copy of a really great reference book that pretty much changed our perception of reading aloud to kids. These are […]

Starting New School

Theme for the week: Down Under

What did you like the most about going to your new school?
Bringing my own lunch.
What else did you like about your new school?
I had two snacks: 1 in the morning (crackers) and 1 in the afternoon (cookies… 4 of them too).
Did you meet some new friends?
Yea… I like playing with […]

Things I will miss at CFC

As suggested by Loanne…. here goes:

1. The hot lunches (inclusive in our tuition).
2. The convenience (e.g. 6:30pm pickups a doorstep away from my office, the ability to take Nicholas out to lunches on a whim to a nearby restaurant all by foot).
3. IPTV (I’ve been using this less and less over the years but it […]

Nicholas’ last week at CFC

I can’t believe it’s been 5 years since Nicholas first stepped foot into CFC. He was just 4 months old and starting full-time care at this facility which would soon become his 2nd home. How fast time flies.
On Nicholas’ last day, we brought in popsicles for the kids (as was requested by Nicholas weeks before) […]

Yes or No!?

i don’t know if this is just something they picked up from school or what, but lately, everytime Nicholas or Wesley asks us a question (in the car especially) and we mutter an “uh-huh” or acknowledge the question with a casual nod… they would immediately follow up with the same question ending it with “… […]

10 Things I love about My Dad

I was so inspired by Rex’s blog about his love of being a dad to his girls and by Chi’s blog about what Eric loved about his daddy that I just had to write one up for my own father whom I haven’t been able to spend father’s day with for probably the last 8+ […]

Father’s Day

We hosted a BBQ lunch on Sunday for Alex’s family and his parents and in-laws provided all the marinated food and condiments for us. His parents always brings the food and we just help out with the misc. stuff cuz I think by now… they know not to trust us with the food prep […]

Brush my hair down

This is what i hear from Nicholas every morning as I’m getting ready for work. I guess he’s very conscious about other kids seeing him with hair sticking up. Usually I’ll wet his hair a bit with a comb and try to blow dry it a little, but nothing really helps because he’s got really […]

I can count in Chinese…

This is exactly what Wesley said before he started rattling off…. “uno, dos, tres, quatro…”  Both Nicholas and I started cracking up and Nicholas said… that’s not Chinese silly.  It was funny seeing the excitement on Wesley’s face when he said that so intently.

Another Niece!

My sister gave birth on Saturday to a baby girl at the Los Robles Hospital in Thousand Oaks.  Both baby and mom are doing fantastic and I’m so excited to have another niece in the family.  My mom says that the baby looks a lot like her older sister but has a slightly rounder face.  […]

Pirates’ sleep

While brushing his teeth today, Wesley says to me…. Pirates sleep with one eye open right? And he made a silly face squinting one eye closed and the other opened. What a silly little guy.

Nicholas’ 1st Piano Class at PPS

So we signed Nicholas up at the piano school near our home last week since we had talked about switching teachers for some time now, and last night was his first lesson with his new teacher Ms. Gaiana. He actually walked out of the lesson feeling accomplished, happy, and said it was a lot of […]

Mr. Z

This is what we call our piano teacher since it’s hard for some kids to pronounce his name. I asked Nicholas once what he liked about Mr. Z and he said…. “he gives me cars”. Mr. Z gives away hot wheels, one for every three excellents Nicholas gets during his lessons. I guess he’s got […]

Chicken Run

I recorded this movie on our Tivo system for the kids to watch on the weekends and finally they got to see it in its entirety a couple weekends ago. Nicholas liked the movie but became more apprehensive about eating Chicken Pot Pies after that experience. Wesley of course got scared by the pending […]

A kiss to take to work

Dropoffs are sometimes difficult for Wesley in the mornings, but if I ask for a kiss from him to take to work…. that seems to do the trick.
